Lead-in

There’s a company in the list of Gemini corporations called “Anti-Stealth”. Presumably they are in the business of developing technologies to defeat stealth technologies. Perhaps Monte might suggest you try to gain their trust somehow, see if you can get a device from them. The only way to gain their trust might be to take at least four missions for them through the mission computer.

After that, you might be intercepted by a militia in space that tells you some corporation are looking for you for business, and to meet their representative in New Detroit.

Plot description

At the bar in New Det this guy is waiting for you and says that a competitor has stolen one of their prototypes and have it at a well defended, orbiting research facility. They have an assault shuttle ready to go there and penetrate the facility to recover the stolen prototype, but need someone to escort the shuttle.

Next mission pays 100,000 credits and it’s to defend their secret research facility from an attack by the competitor trying to steal the prototype again. The reason the fee they offer is so high is that they will have to temporarily install this prototype on your craft, and they fear you might not come back. Just before you leave for the mission he changes his mind and ups the promised fee to 200,000... He should seem nervous...

Smart thing is NOT to come back to collect.

In fact, the player doesn’t even need to do the mission; can just fly away with the anti-stealth device installed.

However, while doing the mission and not coming back to collect forfeits getting paid, it does not produce bad karma, and is good for your kills score and practise.

Leaving the company defenseless, on the other hand, results in bad karma.

Alternatively, if you do come back, you can change your mind about accepting the fee, and tell them you’ve decided to keep the device instead. The guy will argue against it but you might be able to convince him you have no intention of selling it to their competition, and he might let you get away with it in exchange for an extra mission.
