Introduction

Alright, if you’re reading this, you’re either trying to get a .plan on the Deeplayer site, or you’re frustrated with your .plan on the Deeplayer site.

If it’s the former, you’ll need to get the OK from an admin. Simply clicking on the "Register" link on the main site should be enough to get the ball rolling. If not, PM nphillips or chuck_starchaser in the forums.

If it’s the latter, you’re looking in the right place.

When you log in to the main site, you should see a new menu appear in the left column, titled “User Menu”. This is where you get access to everything you need. Here’s a breakdown of the menu items. Each successive “outline point” will provide more information.

Important Note

At this point, I am going to make an Important Note. Any time you are presented with the Apply/Save/Cancel buttons

SaveApplyCancel

Please make sure you click one of them to exit the page. Clicking off of a page while editing, or using the back button (an easy thing, and understandable to do) can lock content sections. This is a Good Thing™ and a Bad Thing™. It’s Good, because us admins can’t shuffle your things around while you’re using them. It’s Bad, because if you leave without saving, us admins can’t shuffle your things around, period. Yes, they time out and unlock after a while, but, I like to think of it as common courtesy – like turning off a light when you leave the room.

The Details

User Menu, Logging In

I’m not going to cover logging in and registering, as you should be familiar with that sort of stuff, by now. If not, you probably shouldn’t have access to post articles or a .plan.

After logging in, you will see a new menu appear on the left, conveniently titled User Menu.

My Profile

This is where you can configure all of your personal details, and link to your collection of blog and article posts.

The top two “tabs” provide drop-down menus to several self-explanitory sections of details. If people get confused, I’ll add more about these places, but I seriously doubt it.

The middle section shows your current avatar, as well as some tidbits about your profile. Again, self-explanitory.

Below that are three (3) tabs1) which provide lists of your various posts and “personal” information. Oddly enough, they do not allow you to edit them directly. This is (in my opinion) a flaw in the Community Builder component, but, there’s not much I can do about it. Frankly, I don’t feel like delving into someone else’s code.

Submit News

This will undoubtedly be your most visited page on the user-side of the DL site. Due to the fact that it is so broad, and widely used, I am going to dedicate a single page to it. Please see the page .article_editing.

My Galleries

Here you will find information on the galleries you have created and the images you’ve uploaded.2) This page, too, is reachable by going into the Galleries link on the main menu and clicking on “My Galleries” which will be in the upper-right of the content section.

Most of it is fairly self-explanitory. By default, you see the Images tab, which lists images you’ve uploaded, and allows you to edit or delete them.

On both the Images and Galleries tab, please take note of the Upload/Save and Cancel buttons, which are on the right side, below the “Add Image/Gallery” title. They’re greyed out until you roll your mouse over them, and are hard to see, otherwise. Use these to complete your upload or gallery creation.

Please be considerate when creating galleries and uploading images. This isn’t your server, and you’re not paying for the bandwidth (are you?). There are also other people’s galleries here. Just think before you post in someone else’s gallery.

This isn’t to say that you can’t post in another gallery, but to make sure that it’s not something specifically dedicated to a personal project.

Logout

Seriously? You need to know what this means?

Check-In My Items

If you’ve been doing a lot of editing, and have been using a mixture of links and the back/forward buttons, click this link before leaving.

Joomla locks content when it is being edited, so that an Admin can’t accidentally reorganize it while you’re doing your work, and vice-versa. It seems backwards and obnoxious until you see two admins working at once, while five people are posting articles. It helps preserve links in the database and site organization until everything is saved.

1) this will become two in the future, if it hasn’t already
2) At the time of this writing, the CSS has not been edited to make this completely readable
